5 Ways to Extend Your Botox Results

We’re guessing that if you’re here, it’s because you just got Botox!

We’re excited for you and this great investment that you’re making in your skin. If it’s your first time, we hope you love your results!

Botox has a couple of perks you probably heard about at your appointment. Its primary purpose is to leave you with smooth, wrinkle-free skin that reminds you of your youth. It can take years off your look, boosting your confidence in time for upcoming events or the holidays.

The other benefit is that it keeps your facial muscles relaxed, preventing the development of NEW wrinkles that haven’t even formed yet. Think about it – if you furrow your brow or raise your eyebrows, you see lines in your skin. If these muscles are less able to furrow, you’re preventing the development of new wrinkles in the areas where you often move your face.

While it would be just fantastic if the effects of Botox could last forever, your average treatment is going to last between 3 and 6 months. This means that you’ll be booking your next appointment with us within the year if you want to refresh your wrinkle-free, youthful appearance.

If you’re anything like us, we know that you want your Botox results to last as long as they can.

Unfortunately, you can’t actually extend the length of time that the effects of your Botox appointment are going to last. As your nerves regenerate, eventually, your face is going to be moving in the same way that it was prior to your injection.

So is there anything that can be done to extend the length of time you spend enjoying your Botox results between appointments? For those of you who took advantage of our October BOO-TOX special, making your results last is probably top-of-mind! (By the way, if you haven’t booked our BOO-TOX special yet, do it now before October is over!)

Our advice? Set up a complimentary consultation to go over what results you’re looking for and how to prepare for your appointment. We also recommend you follow these 5 steps below to make the most of your Botox treatment!

5 Ways to Extend Your Botox Results:

1. Choose a Great Doctor

Choosing the right doctor for your Botox can make or break your experience. Do your research in your area and be sure to read reviews and testimonials about the person who will be doing your injections. You’ll also want to book an appointment with someone who has extensive experience specifically with Botox injections.

If the injections are done properly and according to your goals, the effects will be more likely to last the full length of time and fade evenly.

2. Proper Care Before and After Your Botox Treatment

Before your Botox appointment, there are a few things you should avoid to minimize bruising after injections. Avoid any medications that can thin the blood, including aspirin and ibuprofen. Certain vitamins, such as vitamin A, vitamin E, or other essential fatty acids, should also be avoided. You should also refrain from drinking alcohol for a few days before your appointment.

Right after your Botox injections, we’ll ask you to contract the muscles around the injection site to ensure the Botox is properly distributed. Of course, we recommend that you follow all of your individual recommendations from our team to maximize results. However, after that, we recommend following a few guidelines.

After leaving our office, we recommend that you keep your head elevated, avoid touching or massaging the injection areas, refrain from booking any other facial treatments until at least 48 hours later, and use ice to minimize bruising.

3. Take Care of Your Skin with a Great Skin Care Regiment

One way to maintain your smooth, more youthful look is to invest in your skin with a quality skin care regimen.

Look your best by eating a healthy diet filled with colorful fruits and vegetables and leafy greens. Avoid sun exposure as much as possible by always applying a lightweight, daily sunscreen and wearing hats to block the sun’s rays. Be sure to use a cleanser daily to clean the grime of the day off your skin.

We also recommend using products that complement your Botox treatment. If you are not sure where to start, we can offer some options that will work well for your skin type. One of our favorites is the SkinCeuticals H.A. Intensifier Serum, which works to amplify your skin’s hyaluronic acid levels. This serum delivers surface hydration to plump and firm your skin and smooth wrinkles.

4. Try Zinc

Depending on who you ask, a certain prescription medication called Zytaze may prolong your Botox effects. For Botox to work, zinc needs to be present in your body, so this medication provides the zinc and nutrients that have been shown to enhance the effectiveness of Botox injections. To determine if this is right for you individually, speak with the person who is doing your injections.

As everyone handles vitamins and minerals in different ways, it is worth checking to see if this will give you the results you are looking for.

5. Make Regular Botox Appointments

As we mentioned earlier, one of the great perks of Botox is that it can help prevent future wrinkles by minimizing the movement of certain facial muscles that tend to cause lines and wrinkles when contracted. In this way, getting regular Botox appointments can actually keep your face from developing more wrinkles over time!

However, be sure to discuss frequency with the person who is doing your Botox injections. You don’t want to make appointments to close together (under 12 weeks apart) for best results. If your goal is consistency of your appearance and preventing future wrinkles, you also don’t want to let a lot of time pass between appointments, either. We can help you by identifying your individual goals and the best schedule that will give you long-lasting results.
