Dr. Michael Mays was born and raised in Kentucky. Growing up with a surgeon father, he experienced the outcomes of disease and their surgical treatment at a young age. He graduated with top honors, receiving a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Centre College. He then attended medical school at the University of Louisville School of Medicine, graduating Summa Cum Laude with numerous awards and distinctions. During his medical school, Dr. Mays was inducted into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society and graduated top five of his class. Dr. Mays completed his surgical training at the University of Louisville Hospitals, graduating at the top 1% of his residency program and serving as chief administrative resident his last year. During this time, he conducted extensive research on melanoma with the SUNBELT melanoma trial, publishing numerous peer-reviewed publications on melanoma treatment.
Dr. Mays is a highly respected board-certified general surgeon who has had a successful career in general surgery for almost 15 years. Dr. Mays has extensive experience in all aspects of general surgery with a special focus on robotic, oncologic, breast and skin cancer surgery. He is Board Certified in general surgery and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. His practice is patient focused and he strives to provide excellent care and compassion to patients and their families. He enjoys running, cycling, and spending time with the other Dr. Mays and their three children.
