Dr. Tyring is the Medical Director of Houston Skin, Center of Clinical Studies and Adara Aesthetics. He is also Adjunct Professor in the Departments of Dermatology, Microbiology/Molecular Genetics and Internal Medicine (Division of Infectious Diseases) at the McGovern School of Medicine at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center, Houston.
Dr. Tyring is former president of both the Houston Dermatological Society and the Texas Dermatological Society (TDS). He received the TDS Mentoring and Leadership Award (2014).
Dr. Tyring is board certified by the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) and received the AAD Presidential Citation (2016). He is a member of the Infectious Disease Society of America and the American Federation for Clinical Research. Dr. Tyring is a member of the editorial board and is a reviewer for several dermatology and internal medicine journals. A principal investigator on over 400 successfully completed clinical trials, Dr. Tyring’s research interests include the therapy and prevention of various mucocutaneous diseases, especially those with an immunological or infectious basis. Dr. Tyring is an author of over 1000 journal articles and book chapters as well as 11 books, most recently Overcoming Antimicrobial Resistance of the Skin (2021).
Dr. Tyring received his undergraduate degree from Indiana State University, his Master’s Degree from Abilene Christian University, his PhD from Texas Tech University, his MD from the University of Texas Medical Branch and his MBA from Rice University. He completed his dermatology residency at the University of Alabama School of Medicine.
Harrison Nguyen, MD, MBA, MPH
Dr. Nguyen is an award-winning, Ivy-league educated and trained dermatologist and surgeon who is recognized worldwide as a key opinion leader and innovator in dermatology, skin rejuvenation, and both minimally invasive and non-surgical dermatologic procedures. His training background is uniquely cross-pollinated with integrated fellowship training in Mohs micrographic surgery, facial plastic surgery, oculoplastic surgery, dermatologic surgery, and general plastic surgery. His philosophy is to provide each patient with a specialized treatment plan based on his or her individual needs, stressing a natural, refreshed, and rejuvenated appearance. Dr. Nguyen’s goal is to provide beautiful, natural-looking results with the least downtime possible.
Dr. Nguyen completed an Advanced Fellowship in Mohs/Laser/Cosmetic Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania, where he was an Associate Fellow at the Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics. He previously was Chief Resident in Dermatology at the Emory University School of Medicine and a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology.
Dr. Nguyen graduated with honors from Rice University, where he was an All-Conference Linebacker for the Rice Owls Football Team. He continued on to earn his MD from Baylor College of Medicine, MBA from the Yale School of Management, MPH from the Yale School of Public Health, and DTM&H from the National School of Tropical Medicine. He is a member of the Board of Directors for the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery/Association, leads the American Academy of Dermatology’s Health Policy Research Group, and has been a Visiting Professor at the Oregon Health & Science University. He serves on the Editorial Boards of the Journal of Clinical and Aesthetic Dermatology and Journal of Cutaneous Medicine and has authored over 50 PubMed-indexed scientific articles. In addition to his role as Managing Director at Houston Skin, Dr. Nguyen serves as a Clinical Investigator at Center for Clinical Studies.
Outside of his work, Dr. Nguyen enjoys fitness, boxing, salsa/bachata dancing, and following all sports, especially football.
Garland James, MMS, PA-C
Garland James, MMS, PA-C, is a Physician Assistant serving patients in Pearland and Houston. She is board certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) and Texas Medical Board. She grew up in Missouri City, Texas. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology at Wiley College in Marshall, Texas and Master of Medical Science in Physician Assistant studies from the University of Tennessee in Memphis, Tennessee in 2019.
Garland joins the practice with clinical experience in medical and cosmetic dermatology including e.g. eczema, psoriasis, acne, hidradenitis suppurativa, PRP, neuromodulators and laser treatments with a specialization in skin of color and hair loss. She also has previous research as a Sub Investigator for several clinical trials and publishing experience in JDPA. She is an active member of the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants, and Skin of Color Society and Texas Society of Dermatology Professional Associates.
In her spare time, Garland enjoys exercising, spoiling her fur baby Dexter and spending time with family and friends.
Kristen Potter, MPAS, PA-C
Kristen Potter, MPAS, PA-C, was born and raised in the surrounding Houston area. She received her Bachelor of Science in Biology at Texas A&M University. She then attended University of Texas Medical Branch, where she earned her Master’s in Physician Assistant Studies.
Kristen is board certified by the National Commission on Certification for Physician Assistants and is licensed by the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners. She is a member of the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants. She brings with her seven years of experience in medical dermatology. She currently focuses on clinical medical dermatology and procedures.
In her free time, Kristen enjoys being outdoors, traveling, and spending time with her husband and family.
Ayat Aborahma, MPAS, PA-C
Ayat Aborahma, MPAS, PA-C, grew up in Plano, TX where she attended the University of Texas at Dallas and obtained her Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary studies. She worked as a certified dermatology technician/medical assistant prior to attending the University of Texas Medical Branch, where she earned her Master’s in Physician Assistant Studies.
Ayat is board certified by the National Commission on Certification for Physician Assistants and is licensed by the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners. She has a background in men’s health, primary care, wellness, and aesthetics. She has attended various dermatology conferences such as the Dermatology Refresher Symposium and Dermatology Therapeutics Symposium to continue learning about her true passion. Ayat’s journey for dermatology began in middle school, where personal struggles with acne ignited a profound interest in skincare and various treatment modalities. At Houston Skin, Ayat is excited to apply her expertise and compassion to create customized treatment plans for her patients.
In her free time, Ayat enjoys trying new restaurants, fitness classes, and traveling.
Martina Goudeau, RMA, LMA, CLHRP
Martina is a Licensed Medical Aesthetician, Licensed Professional Laser Hair Removal Technician and a Registered Medical Assistant who has specialized in Dermatology and Aesthetic Skin Care for over 15 years. Working alongside some of Houston’s most prominent dermatologists, Martina’s love for skin care has contributed to high patient satisfaction. Utilizing her knowledge and expertise, she is passionate about helping patients achieve their skincare goals. Martina’s deep understanding of various skin care products such as SkinCeutical’s, Isdin, and Skin Better allow her to customize skin care routines that meet patient’s unique needs.
Martina is an Esthiology graduate of the prestigious Aveda Institute. She attended the Texas Laser Institute where she obtained her certification in laser hair removal, Microneedling, and Microdermabrasion. Along with other professional training, she attended Coolsculpting University where she received her certification in nonsurgical fat reduction. She is highly skilled with extensive knowledge and training in nonsurgical facial & body contouring procedures including Ultherapy, Coolsculpting, EON and Thermage. Some of Martina’s dermatology expertise include Photo Dynamic Therapy and Xtrac Excimer Laser. When Martina is not working on skin, she enjoys traveling with her husband, and spending time with her Mother and dog Carmelo.
